A few years ago I put “watch more TV” on my goals list. Most people would probably not need to do this but I am so hardwired to work first, play later that entire weeks would go by before I’d do anything fun.
“Watch more TV” worked so well that last year I put “Listen to more music” on my list. I subscribed to Spotify Premium and I was set. This worked really well too because the bar was very, very low (I only listened to classical music while writing blogs or a newsletter and certainly never for fun). I now have a routine where I even stop my audio book at the end of a chapter and enjoy a song or two before I get to work.
I’ve kept up those two habits. In fact, I’ve just watched three episodes of Friends from College (Netflix) while folding laundry and painting my toenails. If you’ve watched it, doesn’t this photo remind you of the opening credits? And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, go watch the credits of any episode but the best one was S2, episode 1 (you’re welcome).
This year, I mostly had five goals per goals category. You can see them all here.
One of those categories is fun and I wanted to go see Marc Lottering (a South African comedian) in concert. This was on last year’s list too but the show was cancelled so this year, when I saw it advertised, I sent the link to Dion and he immediately booked tickets as a Valentine’s Day gift and off we went. As we were leaving the Lyric Theatre, I overheard the couple behind us and it seemed they had the same idea.
The show was so good. We laughed so much and there were also some really poignant parts as he shared about his earlier life and how he and his now-husband first got together.
And that’s one of my fun goals ticked off the list. Plus, our Feb monthly date night was sorted too.
Do you do anything special for Valentine’s Day? Do you have any plans to go to the theatre soon?
I love this so much! I need to add more joy to my days - I'm also really good at getting stuff done but not as good at scheduling in fun for myself on a weekly (or daily!) basis which I think has led me to miss work more than I should.
