#2 Let's do this - January wrap-up
and just like that we're in the last week of January. Also, my Sunday night rituals.
Did you miss the first Substack? Apparently it took 3 days for the subscribers to be imported…. but never fear, at least you are now here.
Sunday rituals
There is nothing quite like that feeling on a Sunday night when I’ve already packed my lunch for the next day. When I don’t procrastinate and just do it, I feel virtuous and accomplished. This week was a good week in that I’ve already packed my lunch bag for Tuesday because I’m working from home tomorrow.
I also like to choose my clothes for my office days; on my work from home days, I’m almost always in jeans and a plain coloured t-shirt. This week, I’ll be in shorts because it is 30C most days.
On a Sunday afternoon at around 3:30, I update my (paper) diary for the week, fill in things I missed and need to remember (a friend date, for example), and make notes about what must happen the next week, it being the last few days of January.
Today, I also had a look at the beginning of January pages for a quick squiz at my goals, and it’s not looking bad so far. I do need to crack on with working through my website updates because I did the outline of all the rewriting to happen (one of my 25 in 2025 goals) and I thought there were fewer than 20 pages; there are… 29 pages!
I also usually update my line-a-day journal but this afternoon I opted for a lovely read on my bed instead.
On grace
Am I showing myself enough grace? Not sure yet although let me tell you a quick story, hot off the press.
Yesterday I hosted book club in 31C heat and straight afterwards Dion and I were to go on the first of our monthly dates to an 80s themed live gig (yes, another goal). I am not sure what’s happening (thoughts?) but every time after I host book club I am sick with a really bad headache afterwards. The same thing happened yesterday.
So Kendra (15) came up with a good idea. I was to take some Panado, go sleep and after an hour, see how I was doing. I did exactly that and was at 70% when I woke. This is good because I was at 40% of my usual self before the nap. Dion and I set off on our date and made sure we sat at the edge of the venue on the terrace so that I didn’t get too hot. And we made it - we had a lovely time but realised we are probably past our live gigs stage.
I guess having a nap first when you’re unwell is showing yourself grace.
Currently reading
Did you know I have a very small bookstagram account? I say that because the only reason it’s still going is that I love my own hashtags and can find things easily. However, I’m currently reading Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidaro and Who loves you best by Marilyn Simon Rothstein. I have loved all MSR’s books; if you haven’t read any yet, do yourself a favour and grab one.
I love giving yourself grace by napping. You're working, you have been through a lot and it makes sense that you need rest! I'm truly a fan of napping. I've been doing it a lot during my time off!
